Knysna is the home of the annual Knysna Oyster Festival and the 2003 winner of the “Town of the Year” award. Knysna is located along the scenic route, the Garden Route. Knysna is situated only a mere 36km’s from Plettenberg Bay and 61km’s from George - the Administrative Capital of the Garden Route.

The town of Knysna dates back to 1804 when Sir George Rex arrived in the area. He bought an estate right on the edge of the Knysna Lagoon and moved his family there.

Not only is Knysna known for the indigenous forests surrounding it, but also for the Milkwood Mines. During the gold rush the mines were established about 15km’s outside of Knysna in the indigenous forests. One of the original cottages and the mines can still be visited today.

Knysna is a town with a rich history and one of the biggest tourist attractions in South Africa.
